Ann, I understand your reasoning for wanting to explain this away as a potential coincidence, was it because she was young? was it because the store was busy? was it because Miss Tissot was recognised as old Swiss money? Yes it could have been all of these things but Black people know when we are being discriminated against. It’s the whole experience, it’s what was said and what was not, it’s facial expressions, body language, voice intonation; we know!

Please be careful in future to dismiss someone else experience as something similar to your own, it is not. Finally, I’m not sure how often you have experienced this kind of service, but if I say to you that we experience it all the time and that after a bad experience like this, walking into the next high end store becomes an experience where we need to pluck up all of our courage to face the potential for another experience of racism.

This is exhausting like you wouldn’t believe and would never understand🥺
