I find this a very odd question! My God does not work in the way suggested by your title. My God has already forgiven David Chauvin, the question is has David Chauvin asked for forgiveness from his God? Forgiveness can be freely given by God and by us. The issue is not the giving it is the receiving. Forgiveness can only be received through true repentance.

If I was a member of George Floyd’s family my response would be, yes I forgive him, because this releases me from the poison of unforgiveness, but I can never forgive his actions. His actions comes with consequences and I want him to be prosecuted to the fullest extent possible by the law without any option for parole. This would not be because of my vengeance, that is God’s not mine, but because there should not be any leniency on the sentencing just because of my forgiveness of him or his “repentance”.

So as I see it, if David Chauvin does not truly repent of his sin, he has rejected the free gift of forgiveness from God and his soul will burn in hell for all eternity. We will not know God’s judgment of him, we won’t know if David Chauvin has truly repented, but this is the beauty of our forgiveness and God’s Grace; we don’t need to know because we trust in God’s righteousness.
