I had someone wish me Happy Juneteenth. When this happened I felt immediately uncomfortable and a shiver went up my spine. Ok so why such a visceral response to a harmless and heartfelt greeting from someone who, as a white woman, wants to acknowledge the significance of the day.

So I am a Black man, I am British, I am English and come from Caribbean heritage. So even though her intentions were honourable the greeting was insensitive because Juneteenth is not “Black Independence Day”.

I recognise the day on behalf of my African American brothers and sisters but it is not my day, so like you said please don’t wish me Happy Juneteenth, give me one!
