I’ve never read Dune so I don’t know if the different groups are meant to represent different ethnicities, but I suppose that lazy Hollywood would argue that casting Fremen as white and the other as Black and Brown would not be true to the book 🤦🏾‍♂️

Rather than switching the groups I would prefer to see a globally representative mix of ethnicities in casting. I can’t ever see this happening because white people would be in the minority and we can’t have that can we 🤔

Thanks for your brilliant observations Rebecca 🙏🏾

I guess the reality is that we get to have a Wakanda once in a while and that is supposed to make us happy and not complain. I want more than Wakanda - I want every movie to have full representation of the human race. Things needs to change. Thanks so much for reading my work my amazing friend.

As I understand it, the Atreides are notionally the Americans and the Harkonnens the Russians, spice in oil, though I don’t know how true that is to Frank Herbert’s intentions. The Fremen however are more explicitly Middle Eastern – desert dwelling…

Why should white people be under-represented in film/tv, in cultures/countries where they're the demographic majority?
