Rebecca, I agree completely with your decision. It’s so exhausting to even have to consider whether you are going to confront racist situations like this.
The exhaustive experience continues when the decision is made because, if you do nothing you continue to face sadistic behaviour you are experiencing. To decide to confront it risks being the centre of unwanted attention from others and also the wrath of those in authority in these situations who are more likely to not to believe you in the first instance because you are Black.
To those that are asking “why didn’t you confront the situation” this is the reason. In every situation like this we have to pick our battles.
